Councillors at Lichfield District Council will decide today, 6th January, whether to grant a premises licence for a new private-events venue on Claypit Lane.

Deanslade Events has applied to convert The Barn into a venue for weddings, birthdays, christenings, and other private functions with a capacity of 70 people. The application seeks permission to host live music from 10 am to 11 pm, recorded music until 11:30 pm, and sell alcohol from 12 pm to 11 pm, with late-night refreshments lasting until midnight. The venue would open daily from 10 am to midnight.

The converted barn includes a bar set up in a horse box, designed to match the rural aesthetic of the venue. Staffordshire Police have agreed to conditions including CCTV, leave-quietly notices, and the implementation of a challenge-25 policy.

Six local residents have objected to the proposal, citing concerns over crime and disorder, public safety, and potential public nuisance.

Resident, James Price, said, “I feel that if this application were to be granted this would greatly affect the quality of life for people living in our residential area. I also feel this would pose as not only a nuisance and detriment but also a potential danger to the residents.”

In a letter to the council, Andrew and Amy Hejdner, added, “The proposed activities are incompatible with the residential nature of the area and would cause predictable and avoidable harm to local amenity, public safety, and quality of life."

The licensing and consents appeals subcommittee at Lichfield District Council will review and determine the application during today’s meeting.
