A heroin dealer who was caught in Lichfield has been jailed.

Damien Millis, 44, of Lichfield, was sentenced to three years imprisonment at Stafford Crown Court on Wednesday after he admitted possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of class A – heroin and possessing a controlled drug of class A – crack cocaine at an earlier hearing.

Officers from Staffordshire Police's major and organised crime department stopped Millis on Stafford Road in June this year, after he was acting suspiciously.

He tried to throw away crack cocaine that was wrapped in tin foil but the officer spotted it.

When he was searched, police found wraps of heroin, crack, a phone with two separate SIM cards and £40 in cash.

When he was arrested and questioned, he originally said that the drugs were for personal use. Officers found evidence that he was trying to sell the heroin after buying it in bulk.

After being charged and taken to court, Millis admitted the offences.

As part of Operation Target, more than 400 people have been arrested in connection with the offences between July 2024 and July this year.

This type of crime often involves criminal extortion, where organised gangs seek to coerce vulnerable people into carrying out the supply on their behalf.
