A woman from Crewe has been jailed after controlling almost every aspect of her partner's life during an 11-month campaign of abuse.

Kathryn White, 41, has been jailed for three years and six months after being found guilty of controlling and coercive behaviour.

The court heard White isolated the woman from her family and friends, controlled what she wore, took control of her money, emails and social media accounts, and forced her son to leave the family home.

She also repeatedly accused the victim of having affairs with colleagues and physically assaulted her during the relationship.

One of her colleagues witnessed White slapping the victim after she'd given another a hug.

Police were called to the woman's home in July 2022 after she called 999.

Officers found her visibly shaken, and she reported being grabbed by the throat, pinned against a wall and having a wardrobe door thrown at her.

Just four days after speaking to police, the woman died. Cheshire Police say the evidence she gave before her death was crucial in securing White's conviction.

White denied the allegations during police interviews and claimed she had been the victim of violence herself, but a jury found her guilty following a 19-day trial.

Detective Sergeant Thomas Vass said: "Kathryn White subjected her former partner to a relentless 11-month campaign of physical, verbal and emotional abuse.

"Whilst, sadly, the victim in this case is no longer with us to see White held accountable for her behaviour, I hope today's result provides her family and friends with some closure and the knowledge that justice has been secured."
