Reform UK tell us they're investigating the social media activity of Reform UK Councillor and leader of Staffordshire County Council, Ian Cooper.

It comes after activist group 'Hope not Hate' claimed to have found posts on X allegedly linked to Ian Cooper which they say was sharing, engaging and posting racist social media content.

The X account carrying Cooper's name allegedly commented on a post about David Lammy, "No foreign national or first generation migrant should be allowed to sit in parliament".

The account is not verified to be Councillor Ian Cooper and carries no picture, but is believed by Hope not Hate to be him.

A Reform UK spokesman said, "We are undergoing an urgent internal investigation over Cllr Cooper's non-disclosure of social media accounts."

We have approached Cllr Ian Cooper for comment.

Nine Labour MPs from Stoke and Staffordshire are now calling for Ian Cooper's resignation.

The MPs include:

  • Jacob Collier MP, Burton and Uttoxeter
  • Josh Newbury MP, Cannock Chase
  • Dave Robertson MP, Lichfield
  • Adam Jogee MP, Newcastle-under-Lyme
  • Leigh Ingham MP, Stafford
  • Gareth Snell MP, Stoke-on-Trent Central
  • David Williams MP, Stoke-on-Trent North
  • Allison Gardner MP, Stoke-on-Trent South
  • Sarah Edwards MP, Tamworth
