High Offley grass fire extinguished after accidental blaze
Firefighters tackle 40-acre fire with community assistance
A large grass fire covering approximately 40 acres in High Offley has been determined to have started accidentally.
Fire crews were called to the land off Peggs Lane at 12.30pm on Tuesday, 25th August, responding to reports of a blaze.
Nine fire appliances, including two from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, attended and tackled multiple fields that were well alight.
Using main jets, hose reel jets, and wildfire hoses, crews successfully extinguished the fire.
Station Manager Dez Stoddart, who was present at the scene, expressed gratitude for the local community's assistance, particularly local farmers who helped contain the fire.
“I would like to thank the local community for their support during this incident, including local farmers who helped us contain the fire," Station Manager Stoddart said.
He also praised the initial crews for their swift actions in preventing the fire from reaching nearby properties and vehicles.
With the cause identified as accidental, Stoddart urged the public to exercise caution outdoors this summer and follow safety advice accessible on the fire service's website to ensure the continued safety of Staffordshire.
