Glynn Luznyj has officially taken on the role of Chief Fire Officer for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, following the retirement of Rob Barber.

Luznyj commenced his duties on Wednesday 3rd June, having been confirmed in his new position by the Police, Fire and Crime Panel earlier this year in February.

He steps into the role with a wealth of experience, having spent his entire career with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Beginning as a trainee firefighter in 1996, Luznyj's first posting was at Newcastle Fire Station.

Since then, he has been promoted through various ranks, working across county stations and teams at the Service’s headquarters.

He joined the Principal Management Team in 2015 and was named Deputy Chief Fire Officer in 2021.

A vision for the future

Luznyj has also played significant roles on the national stage, including serving as the National Fire Chiefs Council lead on smoke detection and holding the position of Secretary of the Fire Leaders Association.

His efforts have extended to national themes like Fire and Health partnerships for seven years.

In Staffordshire, he initiated the Community Sprinkler Project, leading to the installation of sprinklers in 19 high-rise buildings, safeguarding residents and responders.

Expressing his excitement for the new role, Luznyj said, “I am honoured to be appointed as Chief Fire Officer for Staffordshire and proud to stand alongside our brilliant workforce.”

He outlined his vision to save more lives, enhance workforce wellbeing, and transform the Service for safer communities and environments.

Strategic leadership transition

Accompanying Luznyj's transition, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Michelle Hickmott has been appointed Deputy Chief Fire Officer.

Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime, Ben Adams commented on Luznyj's appointment: “Glynn brings a wealth of operational and strategic experience across all areas of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue.”

Adams expressed confidence in Luznyj’s knowledge and expertise to lead the Service through its modernization, building upon its strong reputation and addressing national sector challenges.

A special thanks was given to Rob Barber, the former Chief Fire Officer, for his leadership and contributions to the Service.
