The Football Supporters Association says they have serious concerns about the use of "unproven technologies" against match-going fans.
It follows Cheshire Police's plan to expand their use of DNA spray technology during their football policing operations.
The FSA's chief executive is worried the misuse or inconsiderate deployment of the spray could see innocent people caught up in criminal procedures.
In a statement, Kevin Miles says arrest stats continue to show that football is overwhelmingly safe and questions whether it's necessary.
Cheshire Constabulary has become the first police force in the UK to equip officers with DNA Tagging Spray at all League two matches.
The force is on the firm belief that it will be an effective tool to deter and prevent criminal behaviour, in particular at football matches.
Cheshire Police Chief Superintendent Gareth Wrigley said:
“Starting from this weekend we’ll be equipping our football officers with the spray whenever they are policing any League Two matches in the county.
“While we’d much prefer not to have to use the spray, if required the officers will be able to use it to tag any offenders, with a uniquely-coded but invisible DNA that will provide forensic evidence to link them to any offences."
Cheshire Police Chief Constable Mark Roberts added:
“As the NPCC Lead for Football Policing I’m delighted to see that Cheshire Constabulary is leading the way with the roll out of this new tool.
“We know that the vast majority of football fans are law abiding, but unfortunately on occasions there are some who are intent on causing disorder, which is why a strong policing operation is essential.
“I’m confident that this new tool will make a real difference, by helping to identify and deter the criminals who attend football matches here in Cheshire.”
The roll out will begin from tomorrow's game between Crewe Alexandra and Accrington Stanley.
