Staffordshire's new High Sheriff's expressed his pride at being the first Sikh to hold the historic position.

Pritpal Singh Nagi MBE DL, a local businessman, was formally sworn in on 30th March and attended his first court opening yesterday (20th April) at the Collegiate Church of Saint Mary in Stafford.

Mr Nagi, who will serve as High Sheriff for a year, aims to support community safety initiatives, criminal justice agencies, and voluntary organisations focusing on public safety.

He said: “I am honoured to have been appointed to this position, and am especially proud to be the first Sikh to hold the role since it was first founded over 1,000 years ago.”

Mr Nagi has a strong connection to Keele University, as one of the inaugural members of its College of Fellows, and he was joined at the ceremonial event by Keele’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Kevin Shakesheff and other dignitaries.

An entrepreneur and property developer, Mr Nagi was formerly Director of Keele University Science & Innovation Park and a member of the university’s Council.

Beyond his business achievements, Mr Nagi is dedicated to charitable work, supporting youth and military causes as Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of Staffordshire.

His commitment to community engagement and Armed Forces initiatives earned him an MBE in 2017 for his contributions to business and charity in Staffordshire.
