Firefighters tackle large grassland blaze in Cheshire

Crews in Cheshire are continuing to tackle a grassland fire, in the Sutton area of Macclesfield.

The service says Ridge Hill is fully closed near The Hanging Gate Inn whilst firefighters tackle the blaze.

They are advising people to avoid the area.

In a statement Cheshire Fire and Rescue said: "In the early hours of this morning, fire crews were called to tackle a large fire in an outbuilding that had spread to surrounding grassland.

"The fire is near to, but not involving, The Hanging Gate Inn pub.

"Relief crews have started to arrive on the scene. Good progress is being made to tackle the fire as firefighters continue to dampen down the area."
