Emergency services rescue teenage girl from Chatterley Whitfield Colliery

Specialist teams responded to incident at historic site

Emergency services rescued a teenage girl from Chatterley Whitfield Colliery in Stoke-on-Trent following concerns for her safety.

The incident occurred at 2.20pm on Thursday, 16th April, at the former industrial site on Biddulph Road, Chell, which is a Scheduled Ancient Monument open to the public only at specified times.

Police, firefighters, and paramedics swiftly attended the scene, successfully bringing the girl to safety by the evening.

Specialist teams equipped with ropes, including a police negotiator, undertook the rescue operation.

The girl was assessed by paramedics and is now in the care of West Midlands Ambulance Service.

A spokesperson from Staffordshire Police said: "We were called at 2.20pm yesterday afternoon (Thursday 16 April) to reports of concern for a child at the former Chatterley Whitfield Colliery on Biddulph Road, Chell.

Officers and paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service attended the scene.

A teenage girl was brought to safety and left in the care of ambulance crews."

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has emphasised the importance of not attempting to access the site outside organised open days.
