Port Vale will hold a special tribute to former captain Doug Loft before kick-off against Chesterfield.

The club said supporters will have the chance to pay their respects and celebrate Doug's life, career and contribution to Port Vale following his death aged 39.

What will happen at Vale Park

A memorial video will be shown inside Vale Park before the teams come out of the tunnel.

The video includes former Vale teammates, as well as Micky Adams, reflecting on Doug's time with the club.

Port Vale's starting XI will wear walkout jackets with 'LOFT 7' on the back.

10 of the jackets will be made available through an auction at a later date, and one will be given to Doug's family.

A minute's applause will follow ahead of kick-off, giving players, staff and supporters the chance to remember Doug together.

Players will then wear black armbands for the whole match.

Doug's wife Laura will attend the game with their daughters.

His mum, dad, brother and sister will also be at the match, and all of them will be guests of honour at the club.

The club said: 'Doug will always be remembered fondly by everyone connected with Port Vale, and we hope supporters will join us in giving him and his family a fitting tribute.'

Supporters who want to be part of the tribute have been asked to be in their seats no later than 2:40pm.
