Disabled bus pass holders to get free early travel in Stoke-on-Trent
It’s aimed at helping people with disabilities get to work, college or university without extra costs
Disabled bus pass holders in Stoke-on-Trent will soon be able to travel for free before 9.30am on weekdays.
At the moment, people with a disabled or elderly pass can only use it after 9.30am on weekdays, under the national concessionary travel scheme.
But from Monday 1 September, anyone with a Stoke-on-Trent-issued disabled pass will be able to use local buses for free earlier in the day.
The city council has struck a deal with Arriva, D&G, First, Scraggs and Stantons of Stoke to make the change.
It’s aimed at helping people with disabilities get to work, college or university without extra costs.
The trial will run until March 2026, while all-day free travel for elderly and disabled pass holders at weekends and on bank holidays will remain in place.
Councillor Finlay Gordon-McCusker, who oversees transport at the council, said they hope the move will boost passenger numbers, which are still lower than before the pandemic.
