A man who raped a woman in Newcastle-under-Lyme has been jailed for nine-years-and-six months.

He was also served with a restraining order.

Daniel Tyrone Hemmings, who's 34-years-old and from Birmingham, was sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.

He pleaded guilty to harassment without violence, sending communication threatening death or serious harm, failing to comply with notification requirements of the Sex Offender’s Register and stalking involving serious harm and distress.

The court heard how in 2021 Hemmings raped a woman, ignoring her efforts to stop him.

He pleaded innocent but was found guilty.

Detective Constable Diane Sproston said: “Hemmings tried until the last minute to deceive the jury, but because of how strong the survivor was and our evidence, he has now been punished for his crimes.

“I’d like to commend her bravery in coming forward and I hope this shows other survivors that we are determined to act robustly against sex offenders in Staffordshire.”

Staffordshire police say victims of rape or sexual assault can contact them by calling 101, or make a report on their website here.
