Dangerous driver in Stoke sentenced
It happened on Sandon Road in Meir, in April.
A man who drove at considerable speed and narrowly avoided colliding with another driver in Stoke-on-Trent has been sentenced in court.
Dylan Fox, 19, of Stoke-on-Trent, was driving a Ford Fiesta on Sandon Road, Meir, in April this year. Despite a 30 miles per hour speed limit, Fox drove at excessive speed and was spotted by a patrol car that was parked nearby.
Officers put their blue lights on straight away and followed Fox. He was driving so quickly that he had to swerve out of the way of another driver to avoid a collision, causing Fox to go into the opposite carriageway.
If another driver had been coming the opposite direction at the time, a catastrophic collision would have occurred.
After being reported for dangerous driving and being summoned to court, Fox pleaded guilty to the offence. He was sentenced at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Monday (9 June) to 36-weeks imprisonment, suspended for 18-months, and ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work, take an extended re-test and pay court costs.
He was also disqualified from driving for 18-months.
Sergeant Richard Kimberley, from our road crime team, said: “Speeding like this is one of the main cause factors of fatal collisions. It should never happen and we’re determined to keep acting proactively against those that think it’s acceptable.
“In 2025, we’ve sadly had 16 fatal collisions across Staffordshire. The fatal four offences, including speed, can devastate the lives of families in a split second.
“We’re urging drivers to make sure they use our road networks responsibly. Those who don’t will be targeted by officers who are working on a 24/7 basis to keep people safe.”
