Independent charity, Crimestoppers, has started a new campaign in Tunstall, speaking directly to those living with the daily reality of gang crime and raising awareness of its anonymous reporting service.

The charity says it knows that behind every statistic is a personal story - a parent afraid for a child’s journey to school, a shopkeeper locking up early after dark, a young person pressured to join the wrong crowd.

Through this new campaign, Crimestoppers is raising awareness about the importance of speaking up. Anyone with information on gang crime - however seemingly insignificant - can play a crucial role in helping make Tunstall safer.

The charity Crimestoppers offers an anonymous way to speak up about crime – share what you know, however small it seems. Your voice could make a difference, and no one will ever know that you spoke up. You stay 100% anonymous. Always.

West Midlands Regional Manager at the charity Crimestoppers, Alan Edwards, said: “If you or someone you care about has been affected by crime or feel concerned about safety in your community, please remember -you are not alone. We understand it’s not always easy to come forward. That’s why Crimestoppers offers a truly anonymous way to share what you know; your details are never shared, and your privacy is always protected.”

Speak up, safely and anonymously, online or by calling 0800 555 111.

The charity has put together some questions to prompt the public and hopefully encourage them to report what they see or hear:

• What are the names of those members of serious crime gangs in the area?

• Who runs the local drugs trade?

• Which premises are used for criminal activity and drug dealing?

• Who is bringing weapons into your area and where they are being stored?

• How do these gangs recruit those who they are exploiting?

• Have you information on those who have committed violent crime in your area?

To report crime 100% anonymously, visit the charity’s website and fill in a secure anonymous online form or call their 24/7 UK Contact Centre on freephone 0800 555 111, 365 days of the year. In an emergency, always call 999.

Please note: Computer IP addresses are never traced and no-one will ever know you contacted Crimestoppers. For telephone calls, there is no caller line display, no 1471 facility and the charity has never traced a call.
