Ten individuals who were arrested in connection with serious offences linked to a religious group in Crewe have been released on bail.

The arrests were made after over 500 officers from Cheshire Police, supported by neighbouring forces, executed warrants at three Crewe addresses on 29th April.

The allegations involved serious sexual offences, forced marriage, and modern slavery, all reportedly occurring in 2023 while the victim was a member of a group known as the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light.

Following questioning, the seven men and three women were released pending further inquiries, subject to bail conditions.

Ongoing Legal Actions

Cheshire Police has initiated Slavery and Trafficking Risk Orders against five suspects involved in the case.

These civil orders are intended to impose further restrictions to safeguard the public and other group members.

The orders will be addressed at Chester Magistrates Court at 10am on 1st May.

Police Statement

Chief Superintendent Gareth Wrigley expressed gratitude for the community's support following the warrants, acknowledging the disruption caused locally.

He clarified, "it is not an investigation into the religion, our investigation solely focuses on the serious allegations which have been reported to us."

The police continue to collaborate with partners to offer guidance and protection to other group members.

Additional patrols will be conducted around Crewe during the bank holiday weekend to ensure public reassurance.

Residents are encouraged to share concerns with officers and to refrain from speculating as the live investigation progresses.
