Two more arrested in Crewe religious group investigation
Serious allegations prompt ongoing Cheshire Police enquiry
Detectives have arrested two more suspects as they investigate serious allegations involving members of a religious group in Crewe.
On Monday, 20th July, a 53-year-old Mexican woman was arrested in Middlewich on suspicion of human trafficking and child neglect offences.
A 43-year-old British man was arrested in Wilmslow, suspected of child neglect and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Additionally, a 43-year-old American woman, initially arrested following a warrant at Webb House on 29th April, was rearrested on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
All three have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Cheshire Police have applied for a Stalking and Trafficking Risk Order against the 53-year-old woman, with the court hearing set at Chester Magistrates' Court on Thursday, 23rd July.
The arrests are part of a broader investigation that began in March 2026, following reports of serious sexual offences, forced marriage, and modern slavery linked to members of the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light.
Concerns regarding the welfare of children within the group have been raised, leading to these arrests.
Detective Inspector Eleanor Atkinson, part of the Major Investigations Team at Cheshire Constabulary, stated:
"During our ongoing enquiries, concerns have come to light regarding the children's welfare at Webb House, resulting in these arrests.
"I understand these new arrests may cause concern, but safeguarding measures have been put in place to ensure the children's safety within the group, and there is no perceived risk to the wider community.
"None of the allegations received relate to anyone outside the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light, and all suspects arrested are members of the group.
"This is not an investigation into the religion; we're investigating the serious allegations reported to us.
"We remind everyone that this case will likely take time, and we urge against speculation."
Twelve other suspects have been arrested in connection with the investigation; they are currently on conditional bail prohibiting entry into Crewe.
Anyone with information that may aid the investigation is encouraged to contact Cheshire Police via their Public Portal or by calling 101.
