A hotel in Crewe which was being used to house single male asylum seekers has been closed.

That's following a number of incidents at the Crewe Arms Hotel on Nantwich Road.

Cheshire Police say they worked closely with the Home Office following concerns from the local community.

The hotel accommodated around 115 asylum seekers until October 2025.

Since then, numbers have been reducing.

A Ministerial decision was made to close the hotel, with the last resident leaving this week.

Cheshire Constabulary's Assistant Chief Constable Alison Ross said the decision wasn't made to target asylum seekers but to protect them and the wider community.

She said: “Over the last 12 months or so we have dealt with an unacceptable number of incidents of crime and disorder at the hotel and its immediate vicinity.

"Whilst our preference has always been that the hotel should be closed as soon as possible, we also recognise the value in co-operating with the Home Office and its contracted suppliers to manage the immediate demand on our resources.

“I would like to thank our partners at the Home Office for their cooperation and support throughout this process and I truly believe that the outcome reached is the best result for everyone.”
