Crewe dispersal order to stay in place for longer
It's now due to expire tomorrow (Friday)
A dispersal order in place to manage protests in Crewe has been extended by police until the 5th of June.
The order was originally issued on the 1st of June at 10pm following a warrant at Webb House.
While most of the protests have remained peaceful, police implemented the dispersal order to address several isolated incidents involving arrests and minor disruptions.
Officers are acting under Section 35 of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, which allows them to direct people away from the local area for up to 48 hours if they are participating in or likely to engage in anti-social behaviour, crime, or disorder.
Failure to comply with police instructions regarding the dispersal order may lead to further action.
Police call for ongoing community patience
Chief Inspector Matt Sanders, who leads Crewe Local Policing Unit, expressed gratitude for local support and patience.
“Firstly, I would like to thank the local community for their support and patience over recent weeks."
He added, “While we understand that everyone has the right to protest peacefully, it’s also important to remember that residents also have the right to go about their daily business as normal.
"We know that the protests outside Webb House are likely to continue, however we would ask those attending to remain peaceful and respect the local community. Anyone who fails to do so will be dealt with by officers."
Police continue to have a highly visible presence in the area and encourage residents to voice any concerns to officers.
