The snow has disrupted bin collections with Cheshire East council saying it has not been safe or possible for crews to go out so far today (Monday) because of the adverse weather.

The council has posted a notice on its website saying it is waiting for the conditions to improve and will update residents with more information as soon as possible.

It adds: “The adverse weather conditions are forecast to last for the week commencing January 5 and may impact other collections scheduled for this week.

“Where safe to do so, please put your bins out on your scheduled collection day and we’ll continue to keep residents updated.”

Motorists who have ventured out today have reported some roads are gridlocked, with traffic at a standstill and vehicles stranded on treacherous roads.

Cheshire East says main routes across the borough have been gritted as usual but the salt is less effective in sub-zero temperatures experienced overnight.

The council is now carrying out additional gritting on the usual routes.
