Bet365 to cut 340 jobs in response to competitive market conditions
Staff reductions affect operations in Stoke-on-Trent, Malta, and Gibraltar
Bet365, a leading global gaming and betting firm, has announced a plan to restructure its operations, affecting approximately 340 roles across its European hubs in Stoke-on-Trent, Malta, and Gibraltar.
The decision comes amidst a highly competitive trading environment, coupled with rising regulatory and tax-related costs.
In response, Bet365 aims to secure its long-term future while navigating these market challenges.
The job cuts represent about 3% of the company's workforce, which includes around 5,500 employees at its headquarters in Stoke-on-Trent.
To mitigate the impact on its staff, Bet365 is implementing a programme of voluntary redundancies, exploring all avenues to minimise compulsory job cuts.
A spokesperson for Bet365 commented: "As an international business, we continually review and assess our operations to ensure the business’s long-term future. We are currently facing a highly competitive trading environment, plus increased regulatory and tax-related costs.
"As a result we are restructuring some of our locations this year. Ultimately, this will result in a reduction of approximately 340 roles across our European hubs. Our colleagues are our priority. We understand the concerns many will have. Impacted staff have been informed and are being fully supported throughout this process."
Despite this restructuring, Bet365 remains committed to safer gambling standards.
Industry changes are significant, with recent legislative updates impacting the firm's operations: the UK Autumn 2025 Budget increased the remote gaming duty (RGD) from 21% to 40% effective April 2026, alongside a new remote betting duty raising the effective tax rate from 15% to 25% on all sports betting products effective April 2027.
The company continues to monitor regulatory landscapes while striving to support its workforce through these transitions.
