West Midlands Police (WMP) have arrested a man following a crash involving a suspected stolen vehicle on the M6 in Staffordshire.

The incident occurred early this morning (14th May), after reports of a suspicious vehicle were made to police at 4:50am.

The vehicle, a blue Audi S3, had been stolen in West Bromwich by two men allegedly wielding a machete.

The car owner was unharmed during the robbery.

The stolen Audi was spotted on the M6 northbound between junctions 12 and 13.

It subsequently collided with a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) near Stafford services, prompting the two men to flee the scene on foot.

Firearms officers, a dog unit, and the National Police Air Service attended the location.

The driver of the HGV was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

One suspect was later apprehended, checked over by paramedics, and detained by WMP officers.

Staffordshire Police assisted in recovering the vehicles and cleared the scene by 9am.

The M6 northbound has since reopened between junctions 14 for Stafford north and 15 for Stoke-on-Trent south.

Investigations are ongoing, and police encourage anyone with information or dashcam footage to call 101, quoting incident number 69 of 14 May.
