Ajay Butler, a 20-year-old from Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, has been sentenced to two years and ten months in prison for burglary and assault charges.

The sentence was handed down at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday, 18th September, after Butler pleaded guilty to burglary and was found guilty of grievous bodily harm and assault.

In 2023, Butler threw eggs at a man’s window in Longton, leading to the first assault.

When the resident confronted him, Butler responded by punching him. A relative of the victim intervened and suffered a broken cheekbone after being kicked in the face.

Butler fled the scene but was later arrested alongside Kyle Clarke, who was involved in the 2023 incident. Clarke received a suspended 12-month prison sentence.

Earlier this year, in July, Butler was involved in a burglary at a home on Meaford Drive, Blurton, where goods worth over £850 were stolen. He was identified as part of the group involved in the burglary.

PC Bennett from the city proactive team stated, “Butler caused a great deal of harm with his offending across both of these incidents and has rightfully been brought to justice following our investigation. We don’t underestimate the impact that violent crime can have on victims, and we fully understand how distressing it can be for the privacy of your home to be taken away by burglary and theft.”

The police continue to act against criminal activities in Stoke-on-Trent and wider Staffordshire, reassuring the community that they are addressing such issues with diligence.
