Wales manager Craig Bellamy is set to stay in charge of the national team after advanced talks over the Burnley job fell through.

The 46 year-old had been strongly linked with a move to the Sky Bet Championship side, who were searching for a new boss following their relegation from the Premier League.

Bellamy, who is halfway through a four-year contract with Wales, was initially said to be in contract talks with Burnley, despite previously committing himself to Wales and their Euro 2028 campaign.

The Football Association of Wales chief executive, Noel Mooney, praised Bellamy’s impact on Welsh football, describing him as “fantastic for us in terms of the football we play and the energy we have.”

Since being appointed Wales manager in July 2024, Bellamy has overseen a promising start, including a nine-game unbeaten run and promotion to Nations League A.

However, disappointment followed as Wales missed out on this summer’s World Cup, losing to Bosnia and Herzegovina on penalties in the play-off semi-final.

Despite speculation around his position and criticism from some fans after the World Cup exit, Bellamy is now expected to continue leading the national side.

Potential replacements like Steve Cooper and Rob Edwards had been mentioned as possible successors, but with Bellamy staying put, attention will now turn to Wales’ future under his leadership.
