Tata Steel UK has provided an update following the recent fire at its Pickle Line facility in Port Talbot, aiming to reassure customers and manufacturers.

An investigation is taking place into the cause of the blaze that saw multiple fire crews called to the site on June 3rd.

Despite significant damage, no one was injured.

Tata Steel says it implemented mitigation measures to safeguard operations following the fire and that existing operational capacities at the Llanwern Pickle Line have since been increased.

Rajesh Nair, CEO of Tata Steel UK, emphasised the company's commitment: "Teams across the business have worked around the clock in recent days to implement mitigation plans and we are making strong progress on contingency arrangements across our UK operations.

"Based on our current assessments, we remain confident in our ability to continue supporting customers and downstream manufacturers during this period and do not currently expect significant market-wide disruption.

"The long-term transformation of Port Talbot remains absolutely central to our future plans and the wider Electric Arc Furnace project continues to progress at pace."

Tata Steel UK says it continues to collaborate with customers, suppliers, trade unions, and the Government as operational assessments are conducted.
