A 25-year-old man from Waunarlwydd, Swansea, has been sentenced to 10 years behind bars after pleading guilty to multiple child sex offences.

Jack Barrett began chatting with the victim online, encouraging them to perform sexual acts.

The victim is from outside the South Wales Police area and had no in-person contact with Barrett.

He admitted to two counts of causing/inciting a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity, one count of causing a child aged 13 to 15 to watch or look at an image of sexual activity, one count of engaging in sexual communication with a child, and one count of breaching a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO).

Detective Constable Gemma McLean said Barrett exploited online platforms to knowingly take advantage of an underage child.

“This investigation, conducted alongside another police force, uncovered the scale of Barrett’s offending,” she said.

“The significant sentence handed down shows the depravity of his actions.

“He is fully deserving of a lengthy spell in prison. This sentence should act as an emphatic deterrent, and we encourage anyone who is a victim of online sexual abuse to come forward and help us bring perpetrators to justice.”
