Prime Minister in South Wales to hear concerns on jobs and rising costs
He says he wants to hear directly from those feeling the squeeze - and put their concerns at the heart of his plans
The Prime Minister arrives in South Wales today, meeting people confronting challenges like concerns over employment, wages, and increasing bills.
This visit is part of Andy Burnham's UK Listening Tour aimed at connecting with communities outside Westminster just before Parliament's return from summer break next week.
During his time in South Wales, the Prime Minister will speak with workers and apprentices about reindustrialisation, job opportunities, and tackling the rising cost of living.
The government says its recent VAT cut on electricity bills is already helping to ease pressure for many families.
With UK and devolved government leaders due to meet this autumn, there’s a push for new ideas to make life better for people in every community.
Additionally, discussions with the National Economic Council will focus on strengthening collaboration with Devolved Governments to improve opportunities and prosperity nationwide.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham emphasised the importance of local insights, stating: -
"I am in South Wales today because the answers to the UK's challenges will not come from an echo chamber. They will come from the places that know their own strengths, and from a government willing to listen and then act.
Good jobs in every community, in every part of the UK. That is what I want every leader in this country signed up to."
