Four arrests after violent disorder in Pontypool
Two people are fighting for their lives in hospital
Four men have been arrested and two are in critical condition in hospital after a violent incident in Pontnewydd, near Pontypool, on Thursday evening.
Gwent Police responded to reports of a disturbance involving a group of men around 7:15pm.
Specially trained firearms officers and the National Police Air Service helicopter were called in to help deal with the situation.
Three men were taken to hospital for treatment, with two of them said to be fighting for their lives.
Two of the men arrested remain in police custody. Officers are appealing for anyone with information, as well as CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around Hospital Road and Mill Road between 7pm and 7:30pm, to come forward.
A section of road between Mill Road and Hospital Road is currently closed in both directions, and motorists are being urged to seek alternative routes.
Police say officers will remain in the area as investigations continue.
They have moved to reassure local residents that violence of this kind will not be tolerated in the community.
