NRW warns Welsh household to prepare for winter flooding
The warning comes after communities experienced severe flooding last winter followed by months of drought and wildfire over the summer
People across Wales are being urged to prepare for flooding this autumn and winter, following a summer of drought and wildfires.
Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is running its annual Be Flood Ready campaign from 12 to 16 October, encouraging households and businesses to check their flood risk and sign up for free flood warnings.
The organisation said communities across Wales experienced severe flooding and storms last winter, before prolonged dry conditions affected the country over the summer.
NRW warned that flood risk could return quickly as wetter weather arrives, with climate change contributing to more frequent and intense weather extremes.
It estimates that one in seven homes and businesses in Wales is at risk of flooding.
The campaign encourages people to check their flood risk by postcode, register for flood warnings and make a plan for what to do if flooding is forecast.
NRW said preparing in advance and acting early when warnings are issued could help reduce the impact on people, homes and businesses.
People can check their flood risk and sign up for alerts through the Natural Resources Wales website.
