A 26-year-old man has been jailed after abducting a child and sexually assaulting three others in south Wales.

Kai Giggie, who is also known as Kyle Wellburn and originally from Aberdeen, was sentenced to three years in prison at Newport Crown Court on Friday.

He had pleaded guilty to charges of child abduction, sexual activity with a child, and two counts of sexual assault against a child.

The offences were committed between June and July 2025, and Giggie's actions were uncovered during a South Wales Police investigation. Alongside the prison sentence, Giggie will be subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a 10-year restraining order.

Details of the offences

Investigators found that Giggie deceived his victims by posing as a teenage child aged between 13 and 16, claiming to have escaped abusive foster placements in Scotland. Concerns were raised by an adult whose child was interacting with him, leading to the discovery of his offences.

Giggie used his fabricated identity to build trust with local children, grooming them before committing the sexual offences. He also abducted one child and took them to London without their family’s knowledge.

Police response

DC Julia Page, who led the investigation, spoke about Giggie's manipulative actions and the role of the victims in bringing him to justice.

“In all my career in policing, I have never come across an individual so manipulative who would go to the lengths Giggie did to gain the trust of his victims and their families.

“He took advantage of them at their most vulnerable of ages and used this to dominate them for his own benefit. I want to praise the victims in this case for their patience, bravery, and courage whilst the investigation was ongoing. These investigations can take time, but I hope that this sentencing goes some way in providing closure for them.

“Giggie is a significant risk to children, and we believe there may be other children who he has offended against. I would encourage anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse and not reported it, for whatever reason, to contact us. You will be listened to.”

South Wales Police continues to urge victims of abuse to come forward.
