A man accused of murdering housing association worker Eleanor Barnfield lived in the complex where she was employed, a court has heard.

Clifford Foster, 61, is charged with murdering 47-year-old Ms Barnfield, who died from puncture wounds not related to a car crash on Coity Road in Bridgend.

Foster appeared at Newport Magistrates' Court and spoke only to confirm his name, address, and date of birth. He was not asked to enter a plea and is expected at Cardiff Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on 30th October.

Ms Barnfield had been working at the Ger-y-Nant sheltered living complex, which Foster, the accused, resided in. The complex, run by Valleys to Coast housing association, provides non-resident management staff and is intended for residents aged 60 and over.

Valleys to Coast housing association expressed devastation over Ms Barnfield's death, with chief executive Jo Oak highlighting her valued contributions.

Her family issued a tribute describing her as the "most loving" mother and "bravest person in the world," deeply mourning her passing.

Despite rumours, Welsh Ambulance Service stated there were no delayed response reports concerning the incident and noted that no calls were identified from Ms Barnfield's phone at the time.

Foster remains in custody, and the case proceeds with ongoing investigations by South Wales Police.
