Man arrested after illegal weapons discovery in Abergwynfi

Neighborhood evacuated as searches continue

A man has been arrested following the discovery of illegal weapons at a property in Abergwynfi, Neath Port Talbot.

The police were alerted to the situation at around 9.30pm last night, and subsequently attended the address on Commercial Street.

A 51-year-old man from Blaengwynfi is now in custody on suspicion of attempting to make an explosive with intent to endanger life.

Authorities have established a secure zone at the property, while searches continue.

South Wales Police say, as a safety precaution, nearby homes have been evacuated where possible, and trained partnership agencies are assisting in this effort.

A heightened police presence will continue in the area.

The public is advised to avoid the area to facilitate the ongoing emergency response.
