'Major incident' stood down as crews remain on the scene of Llanwonno wildfire
Multiple agencies have been tackling the blaze since Saturday
South Wales Fire and Rescue have downgraded a wildfire in the Rhondda Valley which has been burning for almost a week.
Specialist helicopters were deployed again today over Llanwonno Mountain, near Ferndale, where a 'Major Incident' has now been stood down.
Multiple agencies have been tackling the blaze which covers an area of approximately 400 hectares.
South Wales Fire and Rescue have issued the following statement: "The major incident status for the Llanwonno wildfire has now been stood down.
"Thanks to the continued efforts of firefighters and partner agencies, alongside aerial support, good progress has been made and all properties remain protected.
"Crews will remain at the scene tackling remaining hotspots and the peat fire on Penrhys Mountain. All local road closures have been lifted.
"Our Fire Crime Team will continue supporting residents in the area, while South Wales Police maintain routine patrols.
"Thank you to the local community for your patience, support and kind words throughout this incident."
