A health warning has been issued to people living along a two-and-a-half mile stretch of the River Taff following a major fuel spill.

Natural Resources Wales said it was alerted to the problem on Friday (16 October), and is working with GE Aerospace.

Public Health Wales has warned people living in places such as Treforest, Nantgarw and Taffs Well to keep doors and windows closed, due to a 'strong fuel' smell.

NRW said: "Action taken so far has significantly reduced the amount of fuel escaping from the site though its underground drainage system. A boom and absorbent materials have been deployed on the tributary to try and contain whatever fuel is still escaping.

"We are continuing to investigate the source of the incident to understand how it is happening, stop the pollution completely and collect evidence.

"The site operator continues to remove as much fuel as possible from the drainage system to limit the risk of it escaping into the environment."
