Huge fire causes major disruption in Port Talbot
Firefighters from several stations were called to Dock Road just after 3.30PM in the afternoon
A massive fire broke out at an industrial estate in Port Talbot yesterday, filling the sky with thick smoke and causing widespread disruption across the town.
Firefighters from several stations were called to Dock Road just after 3.30PM in the afternoon.
Crews have been tackling a blaze involving around two hundred tonnes of commercial waste, which sent towering plumes of smoke drifting above Port Talbot and into surrounding areas.
Road closures have been put in place, with the A4241 Dock Road still shut and drivers being urged to avoid the area.
Earlier on Wednesday, traffic was also affected on the M4 as smoke blew across both directions, prompting warnings for motorists to take extra care.
Emergency services are advising residents living nearby to keep windows and doors closed until the smoke clears.
Volunteers are supporting crews at the scene, providing welfare and supplies as firefighters continue their efforts.
The fire remains ongoing, and local authorities are asking people to only call 999 if lives or property are in immediate danger, to help manage resources effectively.
