The FA Community Shield is returning to Cardiff's Principality Stadium in 2026, marking the first time in 20 years that the fixture will be hosted in the Welsh capital.

The match will be played on 16th August, ahead of the Premier League season beginning the following weekend.

The switch from Wembley Stadium, which is unavailable due to scheduled concerts, allows Principality Stadium to step in as the venue for English football's traditional curtain-raiser.

With a rich history of hosting the Community Shield six times between 2001 and 2006, Principality Stadium offers a five-star UEFA rating, a retractable roof, and a capacity of over 74,000, making it an ideal setting for both competing clubs and their supporters.

Gavin Marshall, Chief Financial and Operating Officer of the WRU, expressed enthusiasm about hosting the event: "We are absolutely delighted to be welcoming the FA Community Shield back to Principality Stadium. This fixture has a special place in the stadium's history and to be hosting it again for the first time in 20 years is a tremendously proud moment for everyone here."

Details about the competing clubs and ticketing will be announced by The FA following the conclusion of the 2025/26 football season.
