Police in Pentrebane have been granted extra powers to tackle anti-social behaviour and illegal use of fireworks during the Bonfire period.

A 48-hour dispersal order will come into force at 4pm on Tuesday, 4th November, and remain in place until 6am on Thursday, 6th November. The order is issued under Section 35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

This measure follows reports of fireworks being aimed at homes and vehicles in the area during Halloween.

Under the order, officers are allowed to instruct anyone causing, or likely to cause, harassment, alarm, or distress to leave the designated area. They also have the authority to seize items, including fireworks, that are suspected to be used for anti-social behaviour.

Inspector Tim Ursell from South Wales Police said: "The dispersal order is in place over the next 48 hours as a preventative measure.

"We will have an increased presence in Pentrebane. Officers won’t hesitate to enforce the extra powers afforded to them to keep the community safe.

"We urge parents and guardians to speak to their young people about not getting involved in anti-social behaviour. Please also check who they are associating with, what they are doing and where they are.”

South Wales Police has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour, stating that the dispersal order is just one of the proactive steps being taken to address the issue.
