An 18 year old man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing at Barry Island on Bank Holiday Monday.

South Wales Police say the incident left a seventeen year old with a stab wound to his leg, requiring hospital treatment.

The teenager's injuries are not considered life-threatening or life-changing.

Detective Superintendent Lisa Gore said the suspect is now in custody and police are not looking for anyone else at this stage.

She acknowledged the incident has caused significant concern locally and confirmed there will be an increased police presence at Barry Island over the coming days to reassure residents and visitors.

“I would like to thank those who have assisted our investigation so far,” Det Supt Gore added.

Police are continuing their investigation and have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
