Bangor University is planning to cut 200 jobs to make savings of £15m.

That's what its vice-chancellor has told staff in an email.

The cuts are being blamed on a drop in international students, rising costs and changes to national insurance.

The University of South Wales also announced it's cutting 90 jobs.

In a statement, Bangor University said: "The University is taking clear and proactive steps to address these challenges and ensure long-term sustainability. We are targeting £15 million in savings, primarily through a voluntary severance scheme, while working to minimise compulsory redundancies.

"We are also controlling non-pay expenditure, reducing our estate footprint, and maintaining strict oversight of vacant posts. Additionally, our investment in the Business School demonstrates confidence in our future and supports financial recovery. These actions are necessary to align costs with income and secure the University's stability."
