Woman charged with murder following death of one-year-old girl on the Isle of Wight

A woman has been charged with murder following the death of a one-year-old girl in Newport on the Isle of Wight.

Jayla-Jean Mclaren passed away on 3rd August after being taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Samara Jay Glover, 27, of Dairy Crest Drive in Newport, has been charged with murder and causing or allowing the death of a child. She remains in police custody.

Further investigation underway

Police have confirmed that a 31-year-old man from Newport was previously arrested on suspicion of murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, and causing assault/ill-treatment/neglect/abandonment leading to unnecessary suffering or injury.

The man has since been released on conditional bail and is due to answer bail on Monday 27th April.

Police statement

Detective Chief Inspector Gemma Hunter addressed public concern over the case.

“We understand that cases such as this are incredibly concerning and upsetting,” she said.

“We kindly ask that you do not speculate on this case, as it could potentially impact any future court proceedings.

“We will provide further updates on this investigation when appropriate.”
