Man knocked out of his wheelchair during assault on Isle of Wight

He was spat on, kicked and had his cash card stolen

A 55-year-old man, who was using a wheelchair has suffered serious head and arm injuries during an assault on the Isle of Wight.

The incident happened on Leed Street in Sandown between 12:45 pm and 12:50 pm on Thursday, 19th February.

During the attack, the man was knocked from his wheelchair, spat on, kicked, and his bank card was stolen.

After receiving hospital treatment, he is now recovering at home.

Police have arrested three teenagers in connection with the incident on suspicion of robbery.

A 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy from Sandown, as well as another 14-year-old boy from Ryde, who was also arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon, have been released under investigation as enquiries continue.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time and witnessed the assault or has information that could support the investigation to reach out by calling 101 and quoting reference number 44260084115.
