Tribute paid to ‘kindest man’ following fatal collision in Cosham

John Smith remembered by fiancée and community after tragic accident

A touching tribute has been given in memory of John Smith, a 59-year-old man from Portsmouth who tragically lost his life in a collision in Cosham.

The fatal incident occurred at the junction of Medina Road and Sixth Avenue between 4.10pm and 4.20pm on Friday, 27th February.

John, the rider of an e-scooter, was involved in a collision with a white Ford Transit Tipper van.

Despite being taken to the hospital, John sadly passed away.

John's fiancée shared a heartfelt tribute, saying, "John was my rock and the kindest man I have ever met. His passing has left a massive hole in my heart, and he was taken from me so suddenly."

She further expressed his love for Portsmouth Football Club, following Luke Littler, and Ska music, noting his beloved role as a son and older brother.

"He would do anything for anyone and was extremely well thought of in the local community," she added, recalling his habit of carrying treats for neighborhood dogs and cats and his long working relationship with his father.

Investigations into the collision are ongoing.

The van driver, a 37-year-old man from Portsmouth, was arrested on suspicion of multiple offenses, including dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs, but has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Police are appealing to witnesses and motorists with dashcam footage to come forward and assist with the investigation.
