A trial date has been set for a 39-year-old man charged with the murder of his 68-year-old mother who was found stabbed in her cottage in a Hampshire village.

Gilly Livie, who worked as a housekeeper, was found by paramedics and police officers with serious injuries at her thatched cottage home in Cheriton at 10.30am on January 9.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and a post-mortem examination found she died from a stab wound to the neck.

Daniel Livie, of Alton, was charged with the murder of Ms Livie as well as making threats to kill against a man on January 8.

Judge Angela Morris set the trial at Winchester Crown Court to start on June 29 with a plea and trial preparation hearing on May 5.

She told the defendant, who appeared by video link from HMP Winchester wearing a grey sweatshirt: "We have a trial date for you, that is June 29 this year, that sounds as if it's a long way off but believe you me, it will come round a lot quicker than you think it will."
