Southsea man jailed for eleven years after admitting to sexual assault in Portsmouth
Court hears woman's bravery in reporting incident
A Southsea resident has been sentenced to 11 years in prison after admitting to sexually assaulting a woman at his home last September.
Graham Michael Stubbs, aged 71, was convicted at Portsmouth Crown Court after he confessed to charges of sexual assault and sexual assault by digital penetration.
The 44-year-old victim reported the crime on 24th September 2025, stating she was assaulted at an address on St Andrews Road two weeks earlier.
Stubbs was promptly arrested on 26th September and charged.
Sentencing Details
The court heard that the woman, feeling unwell, had requested Stubbs to stop touching her chest over her clothing.
While she was asleep, Stubbs persisted with the assault.
He received an initial eight-year sentence for this offence, extended to 11 years due to its severity.
Stubbs also received an eight-month concurrent sentence for the earlier assault.
Police Statement and Support
DC Amy Thatcher, the officer in the case, commented on the sentencing:
“Stubbs abused the victim’s trust after offering to help her as she was feeling unwell. Instead of helping her, he preyed upon her and sexually assaulted her. I welcome the extended period of his sentence that ensures that he can’t target other women.
I commend the victim in this case who came forward to secure justice and stop Stubbs from preying on other women, her resilience throughout this case has been extraordinary. I hope this significant sentence helps her moving forward and encourages victims of similar offences to report to us and seek support. Our message is simple, you will be believed and we will investigate thoroughly to wherever possible secure justice and stop people from targeting women and girls.”
Police encourage individuals affected by sexual assault to reach out through their 101 line, where officers can provide confidential assistance.
