South Central Ambulance service is seeing call outs to road traffic accidents almost halved.

Figures acquired by RTA Law have found in 2022, the service's total number of call outs to road traffic collisions in a year was 2,066, in 2024 it was 1,169.

Alongside the number of road traffic collisions attended, the average time taken to get patients to hospital has also dropped from 15:38 minutes in 2022 to 08:36 minutes in 2024.

Rod Mitchell from RTA Law, said: "Response times are vital for an accident victim's health.

"Prompt medical attention can prevent complications, reduce long term injury and improve recovery outcomes.

"The faster the help arrives, the better the chances of a full and safe recovery."

RTA Law say if you are in an accident you should:

  • Prioritise safety first - ensure everyone is safe and if possible, move vehicles out of harm's way, turn on hazard lights and avoid standing in live traffic.
  • Call for emergency services without delay - even if injuries seem minor.
  • Gather evidence at the scene - if safe to do so, collect photos, witness details, and insurance information.
  • Seek medical attention - some injuries can manifest hours or days after an accident.
