Shoppers and staff tackle man with knife in Gosport

It happened during an attempted robbery on Sunday

Staff and members of the public have confronted a man brandishing a knife in a shop in Gosport.

Police say it happened around 9pm on Sunday, during an attempted robbery at the Morrisons in Forton Road.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said:

"It was reported a male had tried to steal several items and when he was confronted by staff and members of the public he brandished a Stanley knife."

A 37-year-old man from Fareham was arrested on suspicion of robbery.

He remains in custody.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
