A second person has been charged with the murder of an 18-month-old girl on the Isle of Wight, Hampshire Constabulary said.

Adrian Lawton, 31, of Newport, is accused of murdering and causing or allowing the death of Jayla-Jean McLaren.

He will appear at Southampton Magistrates Court later (Wednesday).

Samara Glover, also of Newport, appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court last week to face charges of murdering Jayla-Jean and causing or allowing the death of a child.

She was remanded into custody ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing on March 23, as a provisional trial was set for June 29.

Jayla-Jean died in hospital on August 3 2025 after being taken there with serious injuries on August 1, according to Hampshire Constabulary.

In a statement previously issued through police, the girl's family said: "Mummy, daddy, and nanny will always love you. Fly high princess."
