Detectives investigating alleged rape in Portsmouth charge two men

Two men have charged over an alleged serious sexual assault in Portsmouth.

An 18-year-old woman reported being raped by strangers at a property in Manners Road in Southsea early on Wednesday 24th June.

A 45-year-old man and a 46-year-old man are due to appear in court tomorrow (Monday 29th June 2026). They are each accused of three counts of rape.

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police spokesperson said:

"Officers have been carrying out thorough enquiries to establish the full circumstances and have now charged two men in connection with the incident.

"Tony Goldsmith, 45, of Gilbert Street in Enfield, has been charged with three counts of rape.

"Bobby Watson, 46, of Highbridge Street in Waltham Abbey, Essex, has been charged with three counts of rape.

"They have been remanded into custody and are due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates Court on Monday 29 June."
