Portsmouth South MP pays tribute to Service Personnel and Veterans on Armed Forces Day
Stephen Morgan MP has paid tribute to Portsmouth’s Armed Forces community, thanking personnel from across the city
The Portsmouth South MP's paid tribute to the Armed Forces community for their dedication and commitment to keeping the United Kingdom safe.
Armed Forces Day recognises the service and sacrifice of members of the UK Armed Forces, veterans, and their families.
Stephen Morgan, Portsmouth South MP, says supporting veterans and Armed Forces personnel is one of his key priorities, and he has recently secured billions of pounds of investment into Portsmouth Naval Base.
Mr Morgan said: "Our Armed Forces make remarkable sacrifices and demonstrate unwavering commitment in keeping our country safe and secure.
“As the heart and home of the Royal Navy, Portsmouth is proud of its longstanding connection to the Armed Forces community.
"We recognise the invaluable role that service personnel play, both at home and overseas, in defending our national interests and protecting our freedoms.
“On Armed Forces Day, and throughout the year, I thank all those who serve for their dedication, professionalism, and outstanding contribution to our nation.”
Mr Morgan has also campaigned for Portsmouth to be selected as a location for a VALOUR support centre.
Following a successful bid, Solent Veterans Outreach Support is set to receive £1 million in funding to bring together specialist charities and partner organisations, delivering, what he says is a coordinated, multi-agency approach to supporting veterans.
The centre's planned to form part of the UK’s first nationwide network of government-backed veteran support centres, a landmark programme designed to give veterans easier access to essential services, including healthcare, housing, employment support, and welfare advice.
Events will be taking place across the South Coast today to commemorate Armed Forces Day.
