Today is World Environment day, ans this years theme is plastic pollution .

With millions across the globe participating in the #beatplasticpollutuion movement worldwide to end the Manufakturist and sale of single use plastics, only to end up in our oceans and harming wildlife.

And it's not just social media where people are getting involved, as Portsmouth University's Revolution Plastics Institute, who say they have one purpose; to confront the global plastics crisis through research and innovation.

We've been speaking with Dr Cressida Bowyer from the Revolution Plastics Institute about how people can reduce their daily plastic intake- in order to save the planet

"Buy vegetables that don't have any plastic wrap on them and don't use a single use coffee cup.

"There are a lot of plastics in textiles actually, and there are a lot of plastics in fast fashion.

"So there are some choices we can make in terms of buying sustainably, buying clothes that might be more expensive in the first instance but have more of a benefit to the planets environment in the long run

Dr Bowyer then went on to tell us about the work that the University of Portsmouth's Revolution Plastic Institute does on a daily basis

"One of our special areas of research is in policy. And how we can support decision makers and policy makers in the industry, to create better policy's to reduce plastic pollution and end plastic pollution"
